Zac Brown & Dad Record iTunes Podcast for Father’s Day
Zac Brown, frontman of the Zac Brown Band, and his father, Jim Brown, recorded a special iTune’s Celebrity Playlist Podcast just in time for Father’s Day. In the podcast, Zac and Jim have chosen their favorite songs and discuss what it is that makes them special. Heavy on traditional country music, their playlist features Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Porter Wagoner and Johnny Cash, among others.

Dan Fogelberg’s “Leader Of The Band,” a song Zac calls one of his favorites, made the playlist as a dedication from Zac to Jim. “He wrote it about his life as a musician and how his dad always loved him with a thundering and velvet hand and let him do what he needed to do…what he wanted to do, even though sometimes it wasn’t necessarily the easiest way to go,” Zac said. “This is the song I dedicate to my dad until I write a song that’s worthy of, that’s better than that. It’s going to be a hard one to beat though.”

Brooks & Dunn: Last Chance to See Very Last Rodeo
Brooks & Dunn is currently in the midst of its farewell tour, the Last Rodeo, and the final date on the schedule — Aug. 10 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena — is already sold out.

There is, however, one more way for avid fans to be a part of the show in an exclusive way, for a price. The Country Music Hall of Fame, which will receive all the proceeds from that last performance, is offering packages ranging from $250-$750 that include passes to the show and — in the most expensive package — an opportunity to have a picture taken with Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn the day of their duo-ending concert.

Alabama’s Randy Owen Battling Cancer
Randy Owen, who entered the Country Music Hall of Fame as a member of the trend-setting band Alabama, is in treatment for prostate cancer, he told fans last weekend during a fan-club party in Ft. Payne.

The presence of cancer was discovered during a regular doctor’s visit, and Randy underwent a comparatively new procedure in May to whip it. Randy’s Birmingham physician, Dr. Woody Fritz, referred him to a diagnostic center in Sarasota, Fla., where Dr. Ronald Wheeler performed high-intensity focused ultrasound on the cancer.

The procedure essentially shakes the tumorous cells so violently, according to Science Daily, that the walls of the cells leak toxic fluid, and the body’s immune system springs into action to eradicate the cancer.

Tim McGraw, Faith Hill Clean Up in Home Sale
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill appear to have made a tidy profit on their home in Beverly Hills. The couple sold a six-bedroom property, according to The Los Angeles Times, for $9.5 million.

Offering 10,500 square feet of living space on a four-acre plot, the two-story Mediterranean abode has limestone floors, a swimming pool, spa and gym. They bought the estate in 2003, when The Times first reported a purchase price of $6.4 million.

When Tim and Faith bought that residence, there were predictable gone-Hollywood headlines, though they never actually abandoned Middle Tennessee. They continued to raise their daughters in the Nashville area, and intend to keep Music City as the family’s primary residence.

country newsLady Antebellum: Today the U.S., Tomorrow the World
“Need You Now” has helped Lady Antebellum knock down a lot of fences. In addition to its clear-cut country success, the song launched the band’s sophomore project to the top of the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart. And it’s now spent a ridiculous 12 weeks at No. 1 on the magazine’s adult contemporary chart.

But Lady A’s success hasn’t just crossed musical boundaries. The song has reached across geographic borders to create some demand for the band all around the globe.

country newsTim McGraw at CMA Fest After 10-Year Absence
When Tim McGraw turned up last Thursday to help kick off the opening night of the CMA Music Festival in Nashville, even he was shocked to discover it was his first time to play the fan-centric event in a decade.

Tim made his return in a big way, taking the stage at LP Field to play for more than 40,000 fans. He also spent time signing autographs for several thousand people.
